Strikers Tournament

STRIKERS CARROM TOURNAMENT 2019

The ‘Strikers’ carrom tournament was organised for the first time by the Rotaract Club of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo; in the hopes of bringing together members of Rotaract clubs, universities and other teams throughout the island, building unity through friendly competition in a passionate game of carrom. It was held on the 24th of November 2019 and the University of Colombo indoor gymnasium, from 8.00 am to 6.30 pm.

The main objectives of this tournament was to build friendly spirit and unity and give other valuable experiences to the participants and to raise funds for the various projects carried out by our club for the betterment of the society through individual development and the development of the society as a whole.

The tournament was an open team tournament (open for rotractors and non-rotaractors) for both wome and men’s teams. In total, 10 men’s teams had registered. However, women’s teams had not registered. Each team composed of 4 individuals. Players from all levels, national carrom players to novices, participated.

The match stages consisted of round 01 and 02, quarter finals, semi final and finals. Round one was

played as a league round and the others as single elimination rounds. The two semi finalists were

team Moratuwa and Team Chakablast and the 1st runners up was Team Somi boys. Team Evergreen

emerged as the champions securing a cash prize of Rs. 5000. Certificates were awarded to the

semifinalists, first runners up and the champion teams.

Overall it was an enjoyable day full of valuable experiences of true sportsmanship.
