Druk Yul - Land of the thunder dragons

“Druk Yul” is one of the most colorful projects organized by the Rotaract Club of Faculty of Medicine University of Colombo under the International Service Avenue. This was held for the second consecutive year, on the 25th of January 2020 in the faculty main hall. This was an event to celebrate the cultural differences and traditions of Bhutan and to strengthen the friendship between the Bhutanese students and the Sri Lankan students currently being educated at the University of Colombo.

The chief guest for the evening was the Dean of the faculty of medicine, Prof. Jennifer Perera. Other guests from the academic staff, non-academic staff, the general public, members of the Rotaract Club and the students of the University of Colombo participated to witness this delightful cultural evening. The Bhutanese students were dressed in their national dresses known as “Gho” and “Kiras”, while the Sri Lankan students were dressed in traditional sarongs, frocks, batik sarees, and lungis.


The night was filled with Bhutanese and Sri Lankan music, traditional dancing items, traditional games and a touch of Bhutanese cuisine such as “Eka datshi”, Dumplings, Kewa datshi which made the evening unforgettable. “Druk-yul” the cultural day celebrating Bhutan, was a huge success, and the evening concluded with the the chairperson of the event, Rtr. Thanuja Kotawalagedara thanking all the invited guests, for their participation and their enthusiasm to make the event a success.
