Installation

The 2nd installation ceremony of the rotaract club of the faculty of medicine, university of Colombo was held on the 15th of August, 2019, at the faculty main hall. The chief guest for the evening, the president of the Rotary Club of Colombo North, Rotarian Paul Harris fellow Asoka Pieris, the guest of honor, the dean of the faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo Prof. Jeniffer Perera, the other dignitaries at the head table, the Co District Rotaract committee chairperson Rotarian Sohan Mendis, the District Rotaract Representative Rotaractor past president Krishan Balaji and the senior treasurer of the Rotaract club of the faculty of medicine, university of Colombo, Dr. Lalindra Goonerathne graced us with their presence for the evening, despite their busy schedules. 

The president of the student’s union of the Colombo medical faculty, the president of students’ welfare society of the Colombo medical faculty, other members of the district steering committees, fellow rotaractors of other Rotaract clubs, members of our own rotaract club also participated for the evening.

The event commenced with the arrival of the honored guests at the main hall of the faculty of medicine, university of Colombo, at 6.30 pm and the lighting of the oil lamp. As per tradition, the national anthem was followed by the flag salutation, Rotaract Invocation, the Four-way test and the Rotaract song. The welcome address was done by the chairperson of the event, Rtr. Thanuja Kotawalagedara, which was followed by a short video of the events done by the Rotaract club during the years 2018-2019.

The secretary of the Rotaract board of directors for the years 2018-2019, Rtr. Anuresha Peiris presented the report for the the charter year, and outgoing president Rtr. Tushani Ranawaka spoke next in which she summarized all the events and activities done during the previous year, thanked her board directors and all the members for their participation and their immense support to make their charter year a wonderful success. She ended her speech by introducing the new president and wishing the newly installed board of directors the best of luck for the new year. This was followed by the collaring ceremony and the newly installed president Rtr. Sachith Munasinghe, in his short address, intoduced himself, and congratulated the previous president and her board of directors for all their achievements in making their charter year a success, and introduced his board of directors for the years 2019-2020. 

The District Rotaract Representative, Rotaractor past president Krishan Balaji and the Co District Rotaract committee chairperson Rotarian Sohan Mendis also addressed the gathering congratulating the immediate past president and her board for their dedication and sacrifices in making the charter year of the club a success and wished the best of luck for the newly appointed board as well. This was followed by a short entertainment session by our fellow brothers and sisters of the 2015 batch of the Colombo medical faculty.

The guest of honor, the dean of the faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, Prof. Jeniffer Perera, addressed the gathering next in which she too congratulated the immediate past president and her board for their successful charter year as the first rotaract club chartered in a state medical faculty in Sri Lanka, and appreciated their dedication and service, despite the busy schedules of medical students, and encouraged more students to join the rotaract movement. And then the chief guest for the evening, the president of the Rotary Club of Colombo North, Rotarian Paul Harris fellow Asoka Pieris addressed the gathering and appreciated the medical students’ enthusiasm and dedication to keep the Rotaract movement alive within the medical faculty. 

Tokens of appreciation were handed out to the  honored guests, and followed by felicitations by well wishers of other rotaract clubs.
